Morrissey evoking an old single by Johnny Tillotson. ...
In a ghostly
voice, Morrissey sneaks in these unprinted lyrics before the music starts to

Send me
the pillow

and I'll send you mine"
"Also of note are its closing lines, a puzzling paraphrase of Johnny Tillotson's
1962 ballad, Send Me The Pillow You Dream On."

Katharine Hepburn and her brother Tom:
KATHARINE HEPBURN'S SECRET
TORMENT
(by Neil Norman, published June 10, 2010)
It was Kate and Tom Hepburn’s last day in New York. They had been
staying in Greenwich Village with their auntie Mary for the Easter holidays.
On the morning of their return to their family home in Connecticut, Kate was
having breakfast and Mary was putting a packed lunch together for
the
children to take on the train.
Worried that they might miss the train
Mary asked Kate to go upstairs to find what was keeping her brother. Kate
ran up to the top of the house
where Tom was sleeping in the attic bedroom
and knocked on the door.
There was no answer. She knocked again and
called his name. Kate entered and her life changed for ever. Her
brother was hanging from a piece
of material looped around the rafters.
He was dead.
The trauma of that moment in 1921 stayed with
Katharine Hepburn for the next 80 odd years of her life. She had idolised
her elder brother. She was
nearly 14 and he was just two years older.
“After Tom was gone,” recalled Hepburn many years afterwards, “I believe
my personality changed. I went from being totally open to life to being
closed to life. You might say ingrown, sort of like a toenail can get
when your shoe is too small.”
Unable to accept that Tom had committed suicide the Hepburn clan speculated it
was an accident. A parlour trick gone wrong. ...
Sadly there is
circumstantial evidence to support the theory that Tom committed suicide as
there were a number of cases of suicides and depressions
in the Hepburn
family. Her maternal grandfather and father’s brother had both committed
suicide.
These tragedies were never talked about in her family. And
thus it was for Tom. His name was never mentioned again. There was
no mourning, as
Hepburn later said: “What you do is to move along, get on
with it and be tough.” Kate’s father had a phobia about depression and the
damage it could
cause. He called it a “contagious disease” and
attempted to surgically remove it from his family. “It was so much more
terrible because we were not
just told not to talk about Tom but not to
think about him,” she said.
According to Charlotte Chandler’s remarkable new book, The Real Kate: A Personal
Biography Of Katharine Hepburn, the actress subsumed Tom’s
identity
within her own in order to keep him alive within herself. “Because no one
spoke Tom’s name I pledged to Tom and myself that he would live
in my heart
and mind as long as I lived. I decided I had to live my life for two.
It was the only way I could keep my brother alive. I decided I would share
my life with my brother.
The real date of his death would not be until the day I died.” She took
over his birthday, November 8, as her own, discarding
her birth date of May
12. She began wearing his clothes and, although always a tomboy, began
acting more boyishly than before. ...
